Gerwin Hoekstra (1992) studied organ with James David Christie and harpsichord with Mark Edwards at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, pursuing a Master of Music in Historical Performance. Previous harpsichord studies at Oberlin were with Webb Wiggins. During the 2016 fall term Gerwin studied organ with distinguished visiting professor Marie-Louise Langlais.
Gerwin earned a bachelor’s degree in Organ Performance at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, The Netherlands, where he studied with Erwin Wiersinga and Theo Jellema.
Gerwin has participated in masterclasses with Guy Bovet, Ludger Lohmann and Philippe Lefebvre, among others. He was awarded prizes in several organ competitions, including the third prize in the 2014 International Sweelinck Competition. Also in 2014, he received an honorable mention in the Miami International Organ Competition.
Gerwin has served as organist at First Church (UCC) in Oberlin.
